Questions about Invisalign
Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Stockton, Modesto, California

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces. It is a way to straighten your teeth using clear or “invisible” custom-made aligners that move your teeth into their ideal position little by little. You wear your aligners for two weeks, removing them only to brush, floss, eat and drink.
What are the advantages of Invisalign?
Because the aligners are clear, people will not even notice you are wearing them. Their appearance and ability to be removed make them an ideal match for your everyday life, as well as your interactions with other people. And because you can take them out, you have the freedom to eat and drink whatever foods and beverages you like, without having to worry about anything getting stuck. You can also brush and floss as you do normally, which provides for better oral hygiene that traditional orthodontics. Invisalign also has no wires to be constantly tightened, so your dentist’s visits are shorter and less painful.
How will Invisalign effectively move my teeth?
Each set of aligners places the correct amount of pressure, or controlled force on your teeth. Over time, this causes them to move, just like traditional orthodontics do. Unlike braces, Invisalign allows for different teeth to move simultaneously, which increases the efficiency and consequently reduces the amount of time required to straighten your teeth.
Does Invisalign hurt?
After a new aligner, your teeth will feel tight the first couple days. After that, they adjust and you forget you are even wearing the aligners. The teeth that are your biggest problem will tend to get sore every now and again. But patients do not describe this as painful; many say it feels like they have had some work done at the dentist.
What are the disadvantages?
Invisalign is not intended for children. You should not seek Invisalign treatment until you are at least 16 years old. There are also instances of breakage due to teeth grinding. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth, you might want to seek another option for straightening your teeth. Additionally, the constant removal of the aligners puts them at higher risk of becoming lost, damaged or broken. If you have a habit of misplacing things, Invisalign may not be the right fit. The effectiveness of this treatment depends on your cooperation to wear the aligners. If you think you will not wear them at least 22 out of 24 hours a day, it is probably better for you to explore options like porcelain veneers or orthodontics.
